We went over to Avery's preschool today to meet her teacher and chat a bit about her allergies. We got to see her classroom, look at the sensory table, check out circle time, and also see where she gets to hang her backpack and put her school supplies...

I feel bad about asking for a 'peanut free' classroom for Avery, but the teacher was very supportive and said, "We'll do whatever is best for Avery"...

I think it's going to be a good experience for her (and me too!)...

Don't feel bad. As a mom of non-allergy kids I'm quite used to the school we attend being peanut free. I guess I thought it was the norm that for the younger kids it was just safer to make the entire facility peanut/tree nut free.

I'm going to kind of live through your experience... we've been wanting to do preschool, but I'm too scared my daughter will be exposed to or given something.
I'm sure Avery will be just fine! Sounds like a great program!!

That's great they will do a peanut free classroom. I know Kayla has a peanut allergic kid in her class. I typed up all her requirements along with laminated emergency action plans (with her picture) and laminated lists of all dairy ingredients, although she'll only eat what I give them to feed her. Nervewracking for us Mommies!!!

I think it's perfectly fine to request the room being peanut-free and I would do the same thing. I think all the moms would rather have it be that way than risk any child getting ill.
I don't know what I'm going to do when Audrey is school age... come to you for advice maybe?! ;)

You're getting closer! I used to work at a preschool and we had a child who was allergic to peanuts and it really isn't all that hard to find other snacks and foods for the kids. Don't feel bad, the other kids wont even notice they're not getting snacks with peanuts in them.

I love all your blogs you've made lately...everyone still compliments mine and I am sure to tell them where I got it!
