Visiting my Grandma...

3:17 PM

Last summer, the girls and I went and visited my Grandma Vicki. Isn't she just the cutest thing? She has Alzheimer's, and hasn't said my name for years and years. At this time, one year ago, she was walking around, talking here and there, dancing, and generally a happy woman.

Fast forward to this last weekend. Not one year had past, and that sweet semi-vibrant Grandma, has transformed into the frail, stiff elderly that you pass in the nursing homes.

Grandma can't walk anymore. She had this sad frozen look on her face the whole time we were there. My mom gave her this camera case to fiddle with so she would stop fiddling with her shirt over and over again..... It's amazing how she has changed in the last year. When we visited last summer, she talked to me. She didn't have conversations with me, but at least she spoke. This time, I think she said maybe "yes" and "no" a couple times. She's very emotional, and has a sad look on her face as if she's saying "save me...get me out of this body..."
They had this cool swing thing at her home where she could be wheeled up on one side, and my girls and my mother could swing on the other side. I really wish Grandma could have gotten to know my girls...they would have brought her such joy...

Here is my family with Grandma...My husband hadn't seen her in over 2 years, so to say seeing her was a shock was an understatement...
Here is me, Grandma, and my mom.....
